About Kevin Magee

Hi, I'm Kevin Magee. I was born in New Orleans and raised in Sandy Hook, Mississippi.

Because of trauma I went through as a child, I spent a lot of my childhood daydreaming. My imagination was the place I went to get away from what was happening around me. I didn't know it then, but those daydreams were teaching me how to see.

Today I'm 31, a retired U.S. Army veteran, and I paint those inner worlds. My work is surreal because that's how feelings look from the inside: clocks that won't stop, eyes that see too much, women who are fierce, trapped, or finally at peace. Every painting starts with something real, something I lived through or witnessed. That's what my first collection, Day Dreams of the Past, is about.

I have one rule when I paint: I leave everything on the canvas. When you bring one of my paintings home, you're getting all of it.
